Years ago, in a small town, Jake moved in with his good friend Mark. Mark’s house was located down a lonely gravel road, surrounded by woods. Mark warned Jake that the house might be haunted, given its dark history. Though Mark didn’t believe in ghosts as much as Jake did, he had noticed some odd occurrences and strange sounds.
On the day Jake moved in, Mark told him the chilling story of the house. A family of three—a mother, father, and their daughter—had lived there when the house was first built. Tragically, the daughter had taken her own life in her upstairs bedroom, the only room on the second floor. After the parents moved out, several families had bought and sold the house until Mark’s parents purchased it as a fixer-upper.
To renovate, Mark’s parents removed the stairs and sealed off the second story, installing a drop ceiling to cover the opening to the upper floor. The house had an unusual layout: the living room and two bedrooms were in the front, the dining room was behind the living room, and the kitchen was at the back. A long hallway led to the lone bathroom.
At first, Jake found the odd sounds and small movements intriguing. They would hear footsteps echoing down the hallway, objects shifting, and items falling off the kitchen counters—nothing too alarming, mostly happening during the day. But soon, the activity became more frequent and annoying.
The disturbances escalated, happening both day and night. Jake and Mark started avoiding the house, partying elsewhere and crashing at friends’ or relatives’ places. Exhausted from all the back-and-forth, Jake decided he needed a break and returned to the house alone for some peace and quiet.
One night, while watching TV with the stereo on loud, Jake experienced something unnerving. The stereo abruptly shut off, but the TV and other electronics in the entertainment center remained on. He was plunged into dead silence, only to hear whispering coming from the kitchen at the back of the house. The whispers grew louder, like several people murmuring at once. Panicked, Jake stepped outside to see if it was just his imagination.
Outside, he heard nothing but the distant rumble of thunder from an approaching storm. As he tried to calm down, the whispers started again, creeping around the side of the house, growing louder. Jake hurried back inside, where it was eerily quiet. Then, a deafening clap of thunder roared, shaking the entire house and scaring him senseless.
