It was the middle of winter, and the nights felt colder than usual. My wife, Emily, had been telling me something strange for weeks. Every night, after she got into bed, she would feel someone gently tucking her in, pulling the blanket up to her shoulders. She said it felt warm and careful, almost like a loved one.

I didn’t think much of it at first. Maybe it was just her imagination. But then, one night, she said it happened again. She wasn’t scared—just curious.

Our bedroom had a long hallway with a mirrored closet door. I always hated that mirror. Something about it never felt right. I had seen shadows move in it before, but I never told Emily. I didn’t want to scare her.

I worked night shifts—four nights in a row, then I would switch back to sleeping at night. On my first night off, I went to bed early with Emily.

That’s when it happened.

Around 2:30 in the morning, I woke up to a strange pulling sensation. At first, I thought Emily was moving in her sleep, but then I realized—my feet were sliding down the bed, like something was tugging at them. It wasn’t sudden. It was slow and steady, like whatever was pulling wanted to be noticed.

I sat up fast and looked toward the foot of the bed. Our small dog, Max, was sitting there, staring down at the floor. His ears were perked up, his little body stiff, like he saw something I couldn’t.

I reached for the covers and felt my heartbeat pounding. Nothing was there.

Emily woke up from my movement. “What’s wrong?” she mumbled, half asleep.

I hesitated, then told her. She didn’t even look surprised. “That’s happened to me before,” she said.

I didn’t sleep well after that.

The Last Visit

Two nights before Christmas, I woke up again—this time, not from a gentle pull.

I felt pain.

My toes were being bent downward, pressed hard into the mattress. I yanked my feet back, my breath caught in my throat.

Emily stirred beside me. “Again?” she whispered.

I didn’t want to answer. I didn’t want to look.

For the next two nights, we set up a camera at the foot of the bed. If something was there, we were going to catch it.

The first night, nothing happened—at least, not to us. But Max refused to sleep between us like usual. He sat at the edge of the bed again, staring down like he could see something we couldn’t.

When we checked the video, we saw something strange. Tiny, glowing orbs floated through the air. Some drifted slowly, but others shot straight up, as if they had been watching us before vanishing.

Whatever had been tugging at our blankets never came back after that. Maybe it was just a spirit passing through. Maybe it had been a ghost of someone who used to live here. Or maybe it was something else.

But I’ll never forget the feeling of my feet being pulled in the middle of the night. Because whatever it was—

It wanted me to know it was there.
