Hi, my name is Jess, and I’m 23 years old. I’ve always been sensitive to the presence of spirits and other paranormal phenomena. While I have many stories from my childhood, I’ll save those for another time. Over the past few years, I’ve had several minor but unsettling experiences.
My boyfriend, Matt, used to live on a military base in a quiet cul-de-sac. At the end of the street, right where it curved, I would often see an average-height soldier in uniform standing under the streetlights. When I say I saw him, I mean in my mind’s eye—an eerie vision that made me uneasy whenever I drove past that spot. Matt has since moved to another area on the base, but we still have friends who live around there, and I always feel a sense of dread when passing by.
Another unsettling experience happened just outside that neighborhood, near an old thrift shop. The building, probably a gas station in the past, sits along the street leading to the youth center. At night, I frequently visit the RedBox outside to check for new movie rentals. On multiple occasions, I’ve seen a large, shadowy shape—either an animal or a humanoid figure—dart across the parking lot, only to vanish under the streetlight by the dumpster. Despite checking the area for any signs of a stray dog or animal, I’ve never found anything.
But the most terrifying experience happened one night around 1 AM. I was heading to visit Matt while he worked the overnight shift in his hangar. As I approached the plane hangars, the streetlights became sparse, casting eerie shadows. The base was deserted at that hour, and I was the only car on the road. I reached a 4-way stop sign and, as I slowed down, I saw a man with a terrified expression staring at me from my driver’s side window. It was as if he was about to be hit by my car.
I quickly put my car in park and got out, searching for the man. But there was no one there. The road was empty, and the air was still. I got back into my car, heart pounding, and drove away. In all my years of experiencing paranormal events, this was the only time I had seen someone’s face so clearly.
