As he digs deeper, his scientific methods blur into a nightmarish obsession, and he discovers that the smell might be a conduit to a collective madness that is slowly infecting the entire community. With each clue, the line between reality and madness erodes, leading to a terrifying confrontation with the source of the decay—a presence that may be less physical than psychological.
