A few years ago, I was dating a man who had lost his wife. I knew she had passed away, but I didn’t ask too many questions. He lived in a small house with a roommate and several cats. His bedroom door had a pet door so the cats could come and go as they pleased. Most nights, they would sleep in the room with him.

One evening, I was tired and decided to go to bed while he stayed up watching TV. I closed the bedroom door and fell asleep on my side. In the middle of the night, I woke up suddenly, feeling a strong pull on my shoulder. It was as if someone had yanked me backward with force. I immediately reached out, expecting to find him next to me, but his side of the bed was empty.

I listened carefully. He was still on the couch, lightly snoring. What struck me as odd was that none of the cats were in the room. Usually, they would be curled up around me. As I lay there, trying to understand what had happened, I felt the mattress sink beside me, as if someone had just sat down.

I hesitated, then slowly reached out my hand. I could feel the dip in the bed, but there was no one there. Strangely, instead of running out of the room, I felt calm. I whispered into the dark, acknowledging whatever was there. After that, I drifted back to sleep without any more disturbances.

The next morning, I told my boyfriend what had happened. He looked at me for a moment before finally revealing that his late wife had passed away in that very bed. He believed it was her way of showing approval of me, but I wasn’t so sure.

That relationship eventually ended, and I moved away. Not long after, I heard the devastating news that he had died in an accident. A part of me hopes that if it truly was his wife’s spirit, they are now together once more.
