The place was usually empty

It all started back in the early 2000s when I joined a local gym with my friend Dylan. We went almost every night, pushing ourselves harder each time. The place was usually empty except for us and the owner, Mike, an old-school guy who always went out back to take out the trash and smoke.

One evening, while hitting the punching bag, Dylan suddenly stopped. “Dude, there’s someone in the ring,” he muttered.

I turned to look, but there was nothing. “Quit messing around,” I laughed.

But Dylan swore he saw something—a figure standing in the ring, watching us. I shook it off until, a few minutes later, I went to grab my water bottle and felt something watching me.

That’s when I saw it.

A shape, dark and twisted, almost like a shadow but thicker, standing motionless in the ring. My stomach dropped.

“Dylan,” I whispered.

He turned to look—and it vanished.

Dylan glared at me. “I told you!”

The next morning, we heard the news—Mike, the gym owner, had died. No cause. No signs of struggle. Just… gone.

A month later, a new owner took over. And then—he died too. Same thing. No explanation. No wounds. Nothing.

The gym stayed open, though no one came much anymore. The next time Dylan and I walked in, we saw it again. The shadow. But this time, it didn’t disappear. It just stood there, like it had been waiting for us.

Even the new owner saw it. He called the police, but when they arrived—nothing. Just an empty ring.

A week later, the gym shut down for good.

No one’s gone near it in years. But sometimes, if you walk past late at night, people say you can still see the ring lights flicker on… and a shadow standing there, waiting.
