A few years ago, when I was pregnant with my second child, my beloved grandfather passed away after a long battle with cancer. He adored my daughter and was heartbroken knowing he might never meet his great-grandson. He spent his final years living with my mother and passed away in what used to be my brother’s room.

Last July, my mother retired and moved, and my fiancé and I bought her house, which was my childhood home. We completely remodeled it. One day, I was alone, painting my brother’s old room, which was now going to be shared by my 10-year-old and 2-year-old sons. I was on a ladder, trying to stretch to paint a high spot, when I lost my balance. I felt myself falling, but somehow, I was gently placed back on the ladder. I had goosebumps and whispered, “Thanks, Grandpa.”

Two nights ago, my toddler told me there was a ghost lying in his brother’s bed. Since then, he has been very clingy, which is unusual for him as he is usually fearless and unbothered by the dark. Last night, my fiancé and I were watching TV while my son played on his bed with his Game Boy. He mentioned the ghost again. We watched him as he kept glancing at the bed beside him, his eyes wide. He did this for about 20 minutes, never crying, just keeping an eye on the “ghost.” My two older children were not home at the time.

Does anyone have any advice on how to handle this situation?
