For many years, my grandfather lived with my wife and me. He had always loved the countryside, so we often took him back to the small town where I grew up. It was a place full of memories for all of us.

A year after he passed away, something happened that I will never forget. Even now, it feels as real as the night it took place. This was not a dream—I know the difference.

One night, I woke up to the sound of knocking at the front door. The house was silent, my wife fast asleep beside me. I got up, feeling a strange chill in the air. As I walked through the dark hallway, a heavy feeling settled over me, like something was waiting.

I reached the door and hesitated before unlocking it. When I pulled it open, my grandfather stood there. He was dressed in the same brown coat he always wore, but there was something different about him. A soft, pale glow surrounded him, and his eyes looked distant yet familiar.

I stepped aside, letting him in without a second thought. We walked into the living room and sat down by the cold fireplace. I wanted to speak, but the words caught in my throat.

Finally, he smiled and said, “It’s good to see you, son.”

We talked, just as we used to. I told him about my wife, about work, about the house. He nodded and listened, his face calm. After a while, he stood up.

“I have to go now,” he said softly.

I walked him to the door. My hands reached for the knob, but before I could turn it, he stepped forward—and passed right through the wooden door.

I stood there, frozen, staring at the closed door. The room was silent, but I could still feel his presence. I knew what had happened was real. I had seen him. I had spoken to him. And then, he was gone.

Since that night, I have heard of others who have had visits from those they lost. Some believe it is just the mind playing tricks. But I know what I saw. My grandfather came back to say goodbye. And sometimes, in the quiet of the night, I still feel him near.
