This story was told to me by my cousin, Lisa. She had a close friend, Megan, who had been dealing with strange things in her home.
Megan and her husband, Ryan, had moved into a small house with their two kids—six-year-old Liam and baby Emily. At first, everything was fine. The house was old, but nothing seemed wrong. Then, little things started happening.
They heard whispers at night. Soft at first, like the wind. But soon, they became clearer—low voices, murmuring things they couldn’t understand. Objects would vanish and reappear in strange places. A rocking chair in Emily’s nursery moved on its own.
Megan told Lisa she tried to ignore it. She wanted to believe it was just her imagination. But then, Liam started behaving strangely.
He refused to go into the hallway at night. He would sit outside his baby sister’s door, watching, waiting.
One evening, Megan knelt beside him. “Liam, what are you doing here?” she asked.
“I’m keeping her safe,” he whispered.
“Safe from what?”
“The ghost.”
Chills ran through her. “What ghost?”
“The lady,” Liam said. “She stands by Emily’s crib. She watches her.”
Megan felt her stomach drop. “What does she look like?”
“She’s blurry,” Liam whispered. “Like she’s not really here.”
That night, Megan could hardly sleep. She kept the baby monitor next to her pillow, listening for anything unusual. At around midnight, she heard something—soft creaking, like footsteps. She sat up, heart pounding.
Then, a whisper.
Not Emily’s soft breathing, not Liam talking in his sleep.
A whisper, right through the monitor.
“Don’t let him in.”
Megan grabbed her husband and ran to the nursery. The moment they opened the door, the room was ice-cold. Emily was sleeping peacefully, but the rocking chair was moving on its own.
Ryan finally believed her after that. He called someone to investigate.
They were told the house had once belonged to a man named Walter. He had lived alone, angry and bitter. People said he was cruel in life, and in death, he never left.
But there was also a woman’s spirit in the house—one trying to protect the baby from him.
After that, the family didn’t wait. They moved out within two months.
Liam never spoke about the woman again. But sometimes, Megan wonders—what would have happened if she hadn’t been there to watch over Emily?
