Case 39

Year UA 1h 49m

Delving into the darkest corners of child welfare, ‘Case 39’ follows dedicated social worker Emily Jenkins, who stumbles upon the case of a lifetime when she rescues 10-year-old Lily from her seemingly disturbed parents. But what begins as a routine intervention spirals into a waking nightmare as Emily discovers that Lily is not the innocent victim she appears to be, and the evil that lurks behind her angelic face is far more insidious than any human cruelty. As strange occurrences escalate and those around her begin to meet gruesome fates, Emily must confront an ancient, malevolent force that will stop at nothing to claim its next victim. A chilling descent into psychological terror that will leave you questioning who is truly the predator and who is the prey.

“I love a good supernatural thriller, and this one had its moments. Renée Zellweger was convincing as the social worker, and the little girl gave me chills. The build-up was tense, but the third act felt a bit recycled. Still, worth a watch if you're in the mood for something unsettling.”

“Honestly, I expected more scares. The premise is creepy, but it drags in the middle and relies on jump scares that didn't really land for me. The best part was the psychological aspect, but it didn't go far enough. I've seen better, but it's not a total waste of time.”

“For me, this movie really captured the dread of not knowing who to trust. The first half had me on edge, and the performances were solid, especially from the kid. It's not perfect, but the atmosphere stayed with me long after the credits rolled. Definitely recommend for a gloomy night in.”

“I appreciate what it tried to do—mixing social realism with supernatural horror. It started strong, but the plot twists felt a bit contrived. The scares were decent, but I wish the ending had been more original. A decent watch for horror fans who enjoy slower burns.”
