When I was twelve, living in a small town in Colorado, strange things began to happen. It started on a night I went to bed with a fever. I fell into a deep sleep and dreamed of a woman standing in a field, calling my name. She started running toward me, her hand reaching out.
I woke up suddenly, my heart pounding. I felt a heavy pressure on my chest, as if someone was sitting there. I tried to move, but I was frozen in place. I could only stare at the dark shape in the corner of my room. After what felt like a long time, the weight vanished and I could breathe again.
The next morning, I told my father. He grew quiet and said he had felt a cold presence in the hallway the same night. This pattern repeated for a week. We decided to leave that house.
We moved to a new city. Now, in my current home, I often wake up to the feeling of being watched. A tall, dark form stands by the window. I lie still, unable to call out or move, until the first light of morning touches the room and the feeling fades away.
