The old Victorian house on Blackwood Lane had always held a certain chilling aura, even before the occurrences began. Elara, a woman in her late forties, had inherited it from a distant aunt, a place steeped in dust and memories. Within weeks of moving in, her twin daughters, Lily and Rose, began to change. Lily, the more sensitive of the two, started having nightmares so vivid she’d wake up screaming about a cold, tiny hand brushing her cheek. She refused to be alone in her room, claiming a pair of unblinking eyes watched her from the shadows, even in broad daylight.

Rose, usually a placid child, developed a peculiar habit. She would wander out of her bed in the dead of night, a faint, eerie melody humming from her lips. Elara would find her in the grand ballroom, twirling slowly, a vacant smile plastered on her face, as if dancing with an unseen partner. One night, Rose’s dance turned frantic. She stopped abruptly, her eyes wide with terror, and shrieked about the suffocating heat, about flames consuming everything. She thrashed against Elara’s attempts to wake her, crying, “We must stop him! The fire… it will take us all!”

When Rose finally came to, she simply asked for a glass of milk, her memory of the event erased. But these nocturnal episodes grew more frequent, more disturbing. Rose would speak in hushed tones, her voice not entirely her own, recounting tales of a forgotten playmate and the perils of a burning stage. Lily, meanwhile, became increasingly volatile, her temper flaring at the slightest provocation. Elara, torn between her daughters’ escalating distress, moved them into the same room, hoping proximity would offer some comfort. She placed the more fragile Lily in the larger bed and Rose in the smaller one, hoping the confined space would deter Rose’s midnight wanderings. But the house, it seemed, had other plans, its unseen inhabitants eager to claim their new playthings.
