In the spring of 1995, I inhabited an old, sprawling estate with three floors and eight rooms. One evening, after celebrating my twenty-first birthday, I found myself tidying up as the last of my friends departed. I felt the need to change out of my festive outfit, so I retreated to my room.

Upon entering, I was taken aback to find a young woman, probably around my age, seated on my bed. Her expression was filled with sorrow, and she clutched a worn letter in her hands. Fear gripped me, yet I was unable to scream. She rose and approached me, almost as if she recognized me. Her dark hair framed her pale face, and her eyes were a deep shade of green.

She extended the letter toward me. To my shock, my name was written on it, but the date indicated it was penned decades ago. My heart raced, and just as I opened my mouth to utter a question, she spoke first. “I thought you cared for me. Why did you choose someone else, leaving me behind?” With that, she turned and walked through the wall, disappearing into the next room.

Once she vanished, I regained my ability to move and speak. The disbelief washed over me as I processed what had just transpired. I knew that sharing this experience would only invite skepticism from others, so I kept the encounter locked away in my mind, a secret I would carry forever.
