We call it the Gray Walker. It has been following me and my three companions, Leo, Mia, and Jade, for months. It first appeared in a dream I had, a tall, silent figure the color of ash with two glowing white points for eyes. In that dream, it simply pointed at my friend Jade, and she vanished.

Since then, we see it in the waking world. Just yesterday, while we were volunteering at the community center, it moved from one window to the next, a slow, deliberate motion. We don’t understand its purpose. Mia is convinced it is a bad omen, a ghost that means us harm. She might be right.

Two nights ago, it visited Mia in her sleep. She said it just stood at the foot of her bed, watching, and she woke up unable to breathe. She had to see a doctor, who said it was a severe panic attack. Leo, who has a strong intuition about these things, says he feels a great change coming for all of us, and the news is not good.

I have a different feeling. I think it might be a guardian, a strange one, trying to show us something. But who can truly know the mind of a thing made of shadow? We have decided that soon we will try to make contact.
