The Floating Child

My family has always told me this strange tale from my earliest days. They insist every word is true, though I have no memory of the event myself.

One quiet evening, my mother and father returned from shopping feeling quite weary. They decided to lie down for a while, placing me between them on their large bed. I was just a baby then, not even a year old. They rested there together, speaking softly about ordinary things.

Suddenly, my mother noticed movement from the corner of her vision. She saw me rising slowly upward from the mattress. At first she thought my father was lifting me, perhaps to move me to my own small bed.

When she turned to speak to him, she froze in disbelief. There I was, hovering above the blankets with no visible support. Nothing and no one was holding me up. Her breath caught in her throat as she shook my sleeping father awake.

Together they watched, astonished by what was happening before them. For several long moments, I remained suspended in the air between my two stunned parents.
