When my dad and I moved into my grandparents’ house temporarily, I started experiencing some very strange and unsettling things. One night, I painted my nails and went to bed. The next morning, I found the name “Ava” carved into the polish on my nails. Another time, I was alone in the living room when I heard a sound like thunder rolling down the hallway, and the chair started rocking by itself. No one else heard the noise, and I’m the only one on my dad’s side of the family who believes in ghosts, so I couldn’t tell them. But I did tell my mom.
One night, I was the only one awake and saw Ava for the first time. She was wearing an orange gown trimmed with white lace. Often, when I walked through the house, I would see a shadowy mist following me, but it would disappear when I turned around. One of the scariest experiences happened in the kitchen. I heard my name being called in a strange, drawn-out way, “Kaaayyylllaaaaa,” from the other end of the house. It sounded like a woman, but no one else was there.
Recently, my dad and I were the only ones at home. He was in his room on the other side of the house, and I was in the living room. Out of the corner of my eye, I kept seeing someone looking at me, right next to my face. But when I turned to look, no one was there. I got up to check if it was my dad playing a trick on me, but he wasn’t there. The presence kept getting close to my face, staring at me.
The other day, I was taking pictures of myself with my digital camera. In one of the photos, I saw a ghostly figure next to me. There was nothing that could have caused the blur. When I looked at all my pictures, they had a smudge on them. I’ve also been feeling a lot of cold spots in the house.
I don’t think Ava is here to hurt me, but I still get scared, especially when it feels like someone is watching me all the time.
