It all started when my daughter was around 2 or 3. I put her down for a nap, explaining that I wasn’t turning on the ceiling fan because it wasn’t that warm. The only way to turn the fan on was by pulling the chain above most adult’s heads or by flipping the wall switch several feet away from her crib. Standing in her crib, her head barely reached the top rail. I was certain the fan was off when I left the room.

About an hour later, as I walked by her room, I noticed the fan was on. Confused, I entered the room to find the wall switch in the ON position. My daughter was sitting up in her crib. Half-jokingly, I asked, “Who turned the ceiling fan on?” Without hesitation, she replied, “Grandpa Breda.”

My blood ran cold. My father had passed away nearly 15 years before in a car accident. My daughter only knew of him through an old photo and rare mentions. She never wavered, always insisting it was him who turned on the ceiling fan.

A year or two later, my wife and I were watching TV downstairs. We had a baby monitor in our daughter’s room turned down, but it would light up with noise. We noticed it lighting up, assuming she was crying. We turned up the volume and heard her having a conversation, laughing, and answering questions. I went upstairs and asked who she was talking to. She simply said, “Carol.”

Carol became a regular presence in our daughter’s life. She described Carol as a blonde, older teenager. The first time she saw her, Carol walked through a bedroom wall, which initially scared her. Over time, she learned that Carol was friendly. She mentioned that Carol had a little sister and brother who died in a fire, and a mean father.

One time, hearing her talk to Carol again, I asked if she could take a photo of her. She agreed, and I showed her how to use the camera. I stood behind the door and heard the clicks of the camera. When she came out, she had taken two photos: one of her room and another almost pure white. She explained that the white photo was when she asked Carol to appear.

My daughter saw Carol on and off until she was around 10 or 11. Carol never frightened her, but the man in the top hat did. She would run out of her room at night, screaming about a tall man in a top hat staring at her from the foot of her bed. She described him as very tall, more like a shadow or silhouette with an old-style hat.

This continued until about two or three years ago. There were times she couldn’t sleep in her room for months, instead staying with us or in the spare room. Once, during an astral projection, I too noticed a dark figure wearing a hat in the room. I quickly left, not wanting to stick around.

Another time, after my daughter’s shower, she noticed tiny handprints on the fogged-up mirror. They were too small to be hers or anyone else’s in our home. This continued for about a week. We considered getting a psychic medium but didn’t have the funds.

We still have activity in our home, though we don’t believe there are any demonic entities. Recently, I had a daytime sighting of a full apparition, my first. You can read about that in my story “I Just Saw A Full Apparition Ghost!”

I suspect most spirit activity is from family, possibly my sister and father. Recently, my daughter asked for dowsing rods, and we’ve been experimenting with contacting spirits. We’ve identified a teenage boy who allegedly committed suicide and lived in the region. My daughter says she sees him in her dreams. He doesn’t seem harmful, but we don’t know why he’s here. When we asked if my sister was “Carol,” we got an emphatic YES.

We might get a reputable psychic medium to come out. We’d love to have answers to the spirit activity that continues to this day.
