My friend, Lisa, and her husband, Tom, live near a place called Shadow Bridge in a small town in Oregon. It’s close to an old, abandoned factory. This happened about a year ago on a bright, sunny July afternoon. It was too hot to stay indoors, and Lisa was feeling restless. She didn’t want to waste the beautiful weather inside, so she decided to take Tom’s younger sisters, ages 12 and 15, on a walk.

As they headed towards Shadow Bridge, the girls started sharing ghost stories. One of them mentioned that Shadow Bridge was haunted and that people had seen a dark figure wandering around the area. Lisa laughed it off, dismissing it as an urban legend. When they reached the bridge, they noticed a gate that prevented people from falling into the river. They stood on a ledge overlooking the water and the town on the other side. They could see people boating and fishing on the river.

The girls continued talking about the ghost stories they had heard, but Lisa brushed it off as nonsense. She leaned over the ledge and noticed open crayfish shells on the rocks below. She wondered who would go down there to catch crayfish but quickly dismissed the thought and continued enjoying the view.

Suddenly, they heard a splashing sound coming from the water. Lisa looked down and saw pebbles dropping into the river. She leaned closer to see who was throwing the pebbles but couldn’t see anyone. The girls also heard the noise and tried to locate the source. Lisa thought it was a prank by some local kids, so she told the girls to ignore it.

The noise happened again, but this time, more rocks were thrown into the water, and the splashes were louder. To their shock, they saw rocks flying off the ground into the river, as if an invisible person was throwing them. Realizing this was not a prank, Lisa and the girls screamed and ran all the way back to her in-laws’ house.

From that day on, Lisa couldn’t shake the feeling that something supernatural was at play. Even on the brightest, sunniest days, she knew that anything could happen, anywhere.
