Hi everyone! I’ve been thinking about sharing this story for a while now but was worried about not being able to explain it well enough. I used to be very frightened by this, but now that I’m older, I’m curious if anyone else has had a similar experience.
This happened about 16 years ago, before I moved to another state. I lived in a small town where I was born and raised. At that time, I was around 16 or 17 years old. I was close with my mom and grandma, and we lived together. In the afternoons, we often ran errands together and picked up dinner before heading back home. One afternoon, I went with my grandma to the pharmacy, which was in a strip mall shopping center we frequented.
I stayed in the car while my grandma went inside the pharmacy. It was still daylight, and the parking lot was busy with people coming and going. There were a few empty spots next to our car. As I sat in the passenger’s seat, I noticed movement out of the corner of my eye. Turning my head, I saw something standing in an empty parking spot a few spaces away. What I saw shocked me. It was a tall figure, about 8 feet high, resembling a human male but with a face that looked melted.
The face was not dripping, but it resembled peach-colored melted wax or plastic. I couldn’t see any eyes, just indentations where eyes should have been. The figure had an unnaturally high hairline, with hair that looked like a frizzy, rust-colored brillo pad. It was standing there, waving excitedly at me, as if it was an old friend eager to see me.
I was so shocked and scared that I immediately looked away. I felt a horrible, gut-wrenching fear. When I turned my head back, the figure was suddenly right at my window. It didn’t walk or run; it just appeared there in an instant. Bent over at the waist, its face was close to the glass, still waving its hand in a crazed greeting. I didn’t know what to do. The fear was overwhelming, so I pretended to change the radio station, ignoring it.
After a moment, I looked out of the corner of my eye and saw that it was gone. I turned my head to look directly, and there was nothing there. I locked the car door and checked the rearview mirror and the parking lot, but the figure had vanished. If it had been a person, I should have seen it walking away or entering a store, but it simply disappeared.
Freaked out, I started crying. When my grandma returned to the car, I told her what had happened. She could see I was upset and listened as we drove home. When we arrived, I went straight to my mom and told her the story. Both my mom and grandma believed me, but I could barely believe it myself. The experience was so unsettling that I struggled to tell the story for years without getting emotional.
We continued running errands at that shopping center, but I never sat alone in the car again. Even years later, I declined to join my mom on late-night trips to the pharmacy because I didn’t want to risk seeing anything like that again.
