In 2011, my wife and I rented a house in a quiet town. From the outside, the house always seemed a bit dark, even in the early afternoon. The wooden floors throughout the living room and kitchen added to the eerie atmosphere. Whenever I watched TV alone downstairs, I would hear little footsteps behind me. But when I turned around, there was nothing there. Upstairs, I always felt like someone was watching me, but the feeling would stop halfway down the stairs.

My teenage daughter often told me, “Daddy, I think we have a ghost here in the house.” My wife didn’t believe us.

One day, frustrated with the ghostly presence, I heard footsteps at the edge of the living room. I walked over and said, “Show yourself, I know you are there.” The footsteps moved away to the other side of the room. I repeated, “Show yourself.” But nothing happened, and nothing appeared.

We lived in that house for two years. I never saw anything, but I definitely heard and felt things. I was always on guard and could never fully relax. I later read online that a five-year-old girl had been shot by a stray bullet at our house years earlier. We had a little playground in the backyard, which made me think she might be the ghost haunting our home.
