This is a story my friend shared with me. My friend, Emily, wasn’t born yet when her grandfather passed away. Every year, her family would gather at her grandmother’s house to celebrate his death anniversary with a small party, staying overnight with her cousins, uncles, and aunts. Her grandmother had passed away in 1998.
In 2003, they couldn’t celebrate as usual because Emily’s aunt, who usually funded the party, was out of town. Instead, they decided to visit her grandfather’s grave and light a candle.
After their visit, Emily and her cousins went straight to her grandmother’s house to watch a movie and have some snacks. Emily was 19 at the time, and she was with her younger cousins. Feeling sleepy, she decided to take a nap in one of the bedrooms. She woke up suddenly to the sound of her cousins shouting her name from the living room.
Rushing out of the room, she found her cousins crying. They told her they had heard footsteps pacing back and forth upstairs. They were certain no one was up there because everyone had been in the living room watching the movie.
Emily tried to calm them down, but then they heard the footsteps again. The floor upstairs was wooden, so the noise was unmistakable. The footsteps grew louder and louder, as if someone was angrily stomping their feet. Terrified, they all ran outside the house.
They went home and told Emily’s mom what had happened. Her mom explained that it might have been her grandfather trying to make his presence known. She mentioned that he used to stomp his feet on the floor to announce his arrival from work.
Since then, whenever they hear footsteps in her grandmother’s house, they aren’t scared anymore. They simply greet him and say, “Hi there, Grandpa.”
