Ghost Ghost I shrugged it off

In a quiet neighborhood in Maplewood, New Jersey, my family and I moved into an old house. My mom, my sister, our dog Max, and I were just getting settled when strange things started happening. One evening, my mom and sister went out to get groceries, leaving me home alone to work on my school project. About three minutes after they left, I heard banging on the front door. I went to check, but no one was there. I shrugged it off and went back upstairs, but then I heard banging at the back door. Again, no one was there. I thought it was just my imagination, so I grabbed a soda from the kitchen and went back to my room.

A few days later, it was my mom’s turn to experience something strange. I was at a friend’s house, and my sister was at the park. My mom was making lunch when she felt a cold breath on the back of her neck. She turned around and saw the silhouette of a man in an army uniform. Terrified, she left the house and went to the library, too scared to do anything else.

Then it was my sister’s turn. She was in her room playing with the porcelain dolls our Nana had given her when one of the dolls floated in mid-air and left the room. She chased after it, but it floated out of the house and landed on three graves in the backyard. She told me about it, and I decided to look up the history of the house. I discovered that a family had lived there, and the father, who was an alcoholic, had gone mad and killed his wife and daughter before burying them in the backyard and taking his own life. The creepiest part was when the computer started typing the words “help us!” on its own.

We told our mom, and she called a cemetery keeper to come and properly bury the bodies in marked graves. After that, the strange occurrences stopped, and we hoped the spirits could finally rest in peace.
