It was a quiet morning in the small town of Maplewood when Lily found herself home alone. Her father had left for work early, and her younger sister was already at school. To fill the silence, she turned on the radio, hoping to hear some cheerful tunes as she got ready for the day.

As she listened, she realized the station was playing a talk show she wasn’t interested in. With a sigh, she switched it off and stepped into the shower. Twenty minutes later, she emerged, feeling refreshed but uneasy. When she returned to the living room, she noticed the radio had turned back on by itself, now broadcasting a chilling report about a stranger spotted near their neighborhood.

A shiver ran down her spine, and she hurriedly dressed, anxiety creeping in as she made her way to the bus stop. The day passed in a blur, and that evening, after dinner, Lily prepared for bed around 9:30 p.m. As she climbed the stairs, the old wooden steps creaked under her weight.

Just as she reached the top, a loud thumping sound echoed from the attic above. At first, she brushed it off as the house settling, but then she heard faint murmurs. Heart racing, she paused, trying to convince herself it was just her imagination.

Determined to brush off her fears, she pushed open her bedroom door. But as she lay in bed, the sounds continued, growing louder. She could hear distinct voices and the unmistakable sound of footsteps. Gathering her courage, she picked up her phone, ready to call for help if needed.

Just then, the noise stopped, leaving an eerie silence. With her heart pounding, she decided she had to investigate. Summoning all her bravery, she tiptoed toward the attic door, her mind racing with thoughts of what could be up there. As she reached for the doorknob, she took a deep breath, ready to face whatever awaited her in the darkness above.
