In this gloriously deranged gothic fever dream, rock star Roddy Usher’s world shatters when his wife is brutally murdered, plunging him into a spiraling madness that lands him in a nightmarish asylum. But this is no ordinary institution—it’s a decaying palace of the damned where reality and hallucination blur in a cacophony of surreal music, grotesque imagery, and blackly comic terror. As Roddy’s psyche unravels, the walls themselves seem to whisper secrets of corruption and decay, while a parade of monstrous nurses and spectral visions torment him. Ken Russell’s audacious blend of horror, musical excess, and razor-sharp satire turns a classic Poe premise into a twisted, unforgettable descent into the abyss of the human soul. Here, every scream is a song, every shadow a threat, and sanity itself is the ultimate illusion in this campy, chilling, and wildly unhinged nightmare.
