In the sun-scorched streets of Alexandria, a mother’s desperate love collides with the brutal reality of poverty. When Fatmah’s youngest son requires life-saving dialysis she cannot afford, she embarks on a heart-wrenching journey to Cairo, begging for his survival. But fate deals a cruel blow: upon her return, she finds her son dead. Shattered yet resolute, she vows to shield her two daughters, Shoq and Awatef, from the same grim destiny. Dragging them into the city’s shadowed underbelly, she plunges into a world where hope withers and secrets fester. As the sisters navigate a labyrinth of exploitation and sacrifice, the bonds of family are tested against a creeping darkness that threatens to consume them all. El-Shoq is a haunting tale of maternal resolve and the harrowing choices born of scarcity, where every step toward survival echoes with the whisper of despair.
