In 1983, director Mark M. Rissi wove a chilling tapestry of fear with ‘Die schwarze Spinne,’ a film that entwines the sinister symbolism of a black spider with the dark desperation of addiction. When a group of junkies, starved by a ruthless dealer, break into a chemical plant for a fix, they flee into the countryside, seeking refuge in an isolated farmhouse. But this sanctuary hides a deeper dread, as the ancient 19th-century tale by Jeremias Gotthelf resurfaces, its malevolent spider manifesting to prey on their already fractured minds. As one woman’s trip spirals into a hallucinatory nightmare, the line between past curse and present terror blurs, spinning a web of suspense that tightens with every crawl. Prepare for a slow-burn descent into madness, where the most terrifying creature is not just the one crawling on the wall, but the one already inside.
