In a disturbingly plausible near future, celebrity worship has reached its terrifying apex: fans can now buy and inject the illnesses of their idols. Syd March, a lowly employee at the gruesome clinic that profits from this macabre trade, secretly smuggles live viruses to sell on the black market. When he injects himself with a lethal pathogen, he becomes a walking conspiracy, hunted by the very corporation that created it. Antiviral is a cold, clinical descent into obsession, body horror, and the monstrous lengths we go to for intimacy. Brandon Cronenberg crafts a world where disease is currency, and the ultimate fan is willing to die for a piece of their star.
