There was a house in my hometown where I used to live, and my best friend, Jake, lived there too. We both experienced strange things, sometimes together, sometimes separately.

One morning, while getting ready for school, I was heading downstairs with my blanket because it was always cold. I felt something behind me and turned around to see a headless dog, transparent and eerie. Another night, I went to the basement to play pool. As I walked down the stairs, I felt something grab my leg from behind. I panicked, ran down the stairs, and the light went out. I barely made it out through the side door. After that, we moved the pool table upstairs. There was also a mysterious wooden box in my parents’ room that I could never open.

Years later, after my family moved out, Jake moved in. He started telling me about his own creepy experiences. He said he often saw a red ball bouncing up and down the stairs. He also saw a little girl crying in his room, holding a doll with a missing head. Then, a man with an axe would appear, grab the girl, and throw her down the stairs. One night, Jake followed them to the basement, where the ghosts vanished. He saw the basement floor covered in bones and a light shining in the corner. There was a tunnel that wrapped around half the house. He crawled through it and found an axe against the wall, but when he reached for it, it disappeared.

One summer, I spent the night at Jake’s house. We were watching wrestling tapes when it suddenly got dark outside, and lightning started flashing. Jake said this happened before the ghosts appeared. He said the lightning flashed 13 times before they showed up. I laughed it off, but then the second flash came. I looked out the window and saw someone staring at me from an abandoned trailer across the street.

The next thing I knew, I woke up with a wet towel on my head and toilet paper on my nose. Jake said I had started shaking, my nose bled, and I passed out. I asked how many lightning strikes we were up to, and he said 10. I tried to explain that I saw a figure with red glowing eyes. Another flash of lightning, then another. On the 13th strike, the TV went off, and a cold chill filled the room. I saw a figure of a little girl. I closed my eyes and covered my head, but then I felt something tugging the covers. I said, “Stop it, Jake, I believe you.” He didn’t respond. I pulled the covers down, and the girl was right in front of my face. I thought I was going to have a heart attack.

We did some research and found out the house was haunted. One lady who used to live there said she heard the front door unlock and open by itself. She rushed downstairs but found no one. Another night, she heard dishes being messed with and saw knives and forks floating in the air. They flew towards her, and she hid behind a door. She moved out the next day.

Something terrible must have happened in that house, but every time I try to find out more, nothing comes up. It’s like someone covered it up to sell the house.
