The Visitor in the Shadows

I still find it hard to believe everything that has happened. The moments unfolded so quickly, yet they carry a weight that’s hard to ignore. When I moved into my new home, I was informed that the previous owners were a couple who had passed away. I took the master suite, and soon after, I began to notice her presence. The elderly woman appears in my bedroom frequently, her lips moving as if she’s trying to speak, but no words come out.

I get the sense that her husband is at peace somewhere else, as I’ve never seen any signs of him. Instead, it’s her I catch glimpses of, often reflected in the dim light of my television. She stands there, a gentle wave directed my way, as if acknowledging my existence.

After I decided to give her old room a fresh look, she seemed to vanish for a while. Now, I believe she prefers the living room, where I feel an unusual chill from 3 to 4 in the morning. It’s said that during this hour, the veil between worlds thins, allowing spirits to roam freely. I don’t know how I know this, but it’s something I’ve heard many times.

Then, just yesterday, my partner passed away. I can’t shake the feeling that he, too, is trying to reach out to me. In my heart, I hope he finds comfort, wherever he may be, just like the old woman seems to do in this quiet house. Perhaps they’re both here, lingering in the spaces between memories, guiding me through this strange chapter of my life.
