For twelve years, this house has been my shelter, but also my prison. I have tried every method I know to coexist with the presences that share these walls, yet my strength is fading. Companions who visit tell me my demeanor shifts the moment I cross the threshold. Objects slide from tables without being touched. The sound of someone climbing the steps to the empty second floor is a nightly occurrence, a noise I have trained myself to disregard.

I sense four distinct spirits: two adult males, one adult female, and a young girl. I once recorded their faint voices, but when I showed the recording, people just shook their heads and offered no aid. Burning special herbs gives me a few days of peace, but the silence never lasts. I have seen guests flee my home, their faces pale. They always ask why I don’t just leave. The answer is simple: I have no other options, no savings, and this is the only roof I have. I am fighting to keep it.

Of my many experiences, one stands out clearly. Last month, a spiritual leader from my community, Reverend Miller, came to offer support. As we sat together on the floor, hands clasped in prayer, a deep chill fell over us. The steaming mugs of tea we held were suddenly ice-cold. In that moment, a feeling of profound sorrow filled the room.
