Three years ago, during our annual community fair, my grandmother was nearing the end of her battle with illness. She had been in and out of several hospitals, trying every treatment available. Eventually, the doctors delivered the heartbreaking news that there was nothing more they could do, and she returned home to stay with my uncle.
A month later, my father arrived at the fair to take my brother and me aside. He had the somber task of telling us that our grandmother had passed away. It was a day filled with laughter and joy, yet we felt an overwhelming sadness at our loss.
A year after her passing, my father decided to purchase the house from my uncle. They had mentioned strange occurrences happening in the house, particularly in the room where my grandmother spent her last days. Once we moved in, the odd happenings escalated. We began to hear soft thuds and muffled sounds, as if someone was wandering through the halls at night.
The unsettling noises soon spread to the attic. We’d hear creaks and rustling, and sometimes it felt like someone was searching for something up there. It was as if the house held memories that refused to fade away. Eventually, my family made the decision to leave, unable to find any explanation for the disturbances. The house remains a mystery, filled with echoes of the past that we never understood.
