The Secrets of Old Manor

I settled into my new apartment in early spring, in a quaint building that dates back to 1875. There are four units in the structure, with my sister occupying the one next to mine. Between our apartments is a narrow staircase that leads to a cozy landing, adorned with a large, dusty window.

Upon moving in, my sister shared a curious tale about the manor. She claimed it was home to several spirits, remnants of a family that had lived here long ago. Intrigued, we began to look into the history of the house and its former residents, discovering that the apparitions were likely connected to the original family.

The most peculiar thing is that the ghosts are said to manifest more frequently during the last week of April. We have yet to understand why this time is significant, but it certainly adds an air of mystery to our new home.

So far, we’ve had a few eerie encounters that have fueled our belief in the family’s presence. Once, I caught a glimpse of a woman in a flowing gown standing by the landing’s window. Her expression was one of longing, yet she radiated a gentle warmth. We learned to call her Miss Eliza, and surprisingly, she seems to respond when we greet her.

Another evening, while sharing stories over tea, we heard soft piano notes drifting through the hall. The melody was both haunting and beautiful, reminiscent of another era. We often wonder if it’s the spirit of a young boy, perhaps the son of Miss Eliza, playing a tune he cherished in life.

Living in the old manor has become an adventure, filled with both wonder and a hint of fear. As the days draw closer to the end of April, we prepare ourselves for whatever may come, hopeful that the spirits may share more of their stories with us.
