I have one son, his name is Leo. My wife and I have been together for four years now, and her name is Clara. Last month, we purchased a small farm, believing it would be our ideal place to raise Leo. We own three goats, two sheep, seven ducks, and a handful of cats that wandered onto the property. Leo was excited to help with the animals, and I often took him out to feed the ducks while Clara tended to the garden.
In the beginning, Leo insisted on sleeping in our room. I asked him why he didn’t want to stay in his own. He simply said, “There’s someone in my room…” He was only six, and I was taken aback. “Who is it?” I asked, but he just shrugged. “He plays with me…” I had never heard of anyone seeing a spirit before.
That night, I decided to keep him company. We sat together in the living room watching cartoons. Suddenly, we heard a loud thud coming from the barn. It startled us both. I glanced at Leo, and he looked back at me with wide eyes. “It’s him,” he whispered. I had no idea what to think.
Cautiously, we made our way to the barn. The moonlight spilled across the yard, illuminating the path ahead. As we reached the barn door, I felt a chill in the air. I pushed the door open slowly, and we stepped inside. The faint sounds of rustling filled the dark space, and then we saw her—a figure standing by the hay.
She was a young girl, with hair as dark as the night sky. She smiled at Leo and waved. “I’m Mia,” she said softly. I was speechless. “I just want to play.” Leo’s face lit up, and for a moment, I felt a mix of fear and curiosity.
As the night unfolded, Mia led Leo through games that seemed to dance between reality and dreams. I watched as he laughed and played, enchanted by this invisible friend. I realized that maybe this was a part of our new life on the farm, a connection to something unexplained yet beautiful.
Eventually, the laughter faded, and Leo looked up at me, beaming. “Can I keep her, Mommy?” he asked. I hesitated, glancing around the barn. I didn’t know what to say. But as I looked into his hopeful eyes, I knew that whatever this was, it was special.
From that day on, the farm became a place of magic, where the lines between the living and the unseen blurred, and where Leo found joy in the most unexpected friendships.
