When he was younger, my uncle Sam had a reputation for being a bit reckless. He enjoyed his nights out with friends, often exploring the wild areas near their hometown. One evening, he and his friend Tom decided to venture into the dense woods to search for deer. They took Sam’s old pickup truck, a rusty relic that often had trouble starting. As they drove deeper into the forest, the engine sputtered and then died, leaving them stranded under the starlit sky.

With only a dim flashlight flickering in the cab, they tried to troubleshoot the truck. Sam was frustrated, grumbling about their bad luck, while Tom remained hopeful. Suddenly, Tom noticed something moving in the shadows. He urged Sam to look, but Sam waved him off, focused on the engine.

Then, out of nowhere, they heard a rustling sound, and Tom’s eyes widened in alarm. He dropped the flashlight, and it rolled under the seat, plunging them into darkness. Panic set in as they both strained to see. Just then, a pair of glowing eyes emerged from the underbrush, watching them intently. Sam’s heart raced as he jumped into the passenger seat, slamming the door shut.

The eyes circled the truck, and they could hear faint noises in the night. Sam and Tom sat in silence, too afraid to move, until the sounds faded away, and the woods returned to their tranquil state. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the truck coughed back to life. They sped away, vowing never to return to those woods at night again. Years later, Sam still recalls that night, convinced that some secrets are best left undisturbed.
