For two years, I enjoyed the peace of living alone. My cat, Luna, loved to explore every corner of the house. I had a cozy bed piled high with blankets, and I eagerly anticipated the comfort of sleep each night.
One evening, just as I was drifting off, I felt the bed tremble beneath me. “LUNA!” I called out, hoping it was just her playful antics. The shaking paused for a moment, then resumed with a gentle but persistent motion. I sat up, slightly irritated. “LUNA, WHERE ARE YOU?” I yelled, feeling the covers slide off my body.
Finally, Luna leaped onto the bed, nestling beside me like a fluffy ball of warmth. Just as I began to relax, the strange shaking returned. I glanced at the clock; it read midnight. I could see that Luna was still curled up next to me, and yet the shaking continued. “IS ANYONE THERE?” I shouted into the darkness, my voice echoing in the stillness. The shaking stopped abruptly.
I tried to convince myself it was just my imagination. Laying back down, I attempted to ignore the unsettling sensation. After a brief lull, I heard a noise like something toppling over in the hallway closet. My heart raced, but exhaustion pulled me back into slumber.
Later that week, I decided to call the previous owner of the house. After exchanging pleasantries, I mentioned the strange occurrences. She chuckled softly before replying, “Did I not warn you about the house’s quirks?”
