The old farmhouse had stood vacant for decades, its paint peeling like sunburnt skin and its windows staring out like vacant eyes. Elias, a man whose life had become a tapestry of quiet desperation, bought it for a song, seeking solitude and a fresh start after a personal tragedy. He’d spent weeks clearing out the dust and decay, the silence of the place a heavy blanket he almost welcomed.

One Tuesday night, as a storm lashed against the weathered siding, Elias awoke with a gasp. It wasn’t the thunder that startled him, but a sensation of profound weight settling upon him, pressing him into the mattress. He couldn’t move, couldn’t cry out. Above him, a form began to coalesce, not entirely dark, but shimmering with an infernal, internal light. It pulsed, a monstrous heartbeat echoing in the oppressive stillness.

A low, guttural sound emanated from the corner of the room, near an antique vanity. It was a sound of grinding metal and strained wood, a horrible, resonant scraping. Elias, paralyzed by a primal terror, focused on the sound, straining to understand it. And then, through the din, a single, clear phrase, impossibly articulated, cut through the air: “MIRRA… I AM MIRRA.”

He bolted upright, the phantom weight vanishing, leaving him drenched in sweat and shaking uncontrollably. The room was empty, save for the persistent drumming of the rain. He stumbled out of bed, his heart hammering against his ribs. Mirra. The name meant nothing to him, yet it felt imbued with an ancient, terrible significance. Was it a warning? A manifestation of his own grief, given monstrous form? Or was it something trying to claw its way in from beyond the veil, drawn by the house’s isolation and his own vulnerability?

Over the next few nights, the occurrences grew bolder. A faint, metallic scent would fill the air, the same scent as the grinding sound. He’d catch glimpses of shimmering light under his bedroom door. Once, he awoke to find a single, intricately carved brass locket resting on his nightstand – an object that had not been there before, and which he could not account for. It was cold to the touch, and when he tried to open it, his fingers met an unyielding seal. The name “Mirra” became a brand on his consciousness, a chilling invitation to a darkness he was beginning to suspect was not entirely his own.
