The Figure in My Sister’s Room

My younger sibling, Lena, has sometimes told us about seeing a woman in our home when she was alone. We never fully believed her until last evening.

I was making tea in the kitchen when Lena came down, her face pale. She had just come from our brother Eli’s room, where she saw someone under the covers, facing the wall. She thought it was Eli, as his lamp was off.

Standing in the hallway, she heard the sink running in the nearby washroom. Then she came to the kitchen and found me. She looked confused and asked, “I thought you were washing up?” I told her I had been in the kitchen for a long time. Her eyes grew wide. “Then who is using the water?” she whispered.
