My bedroom is always chilly, no matter the season. I blame the old air vent near my desk and the loose window frame. Usually, when I first step inside, I feel a warm puff of air on my cheek, as if someone just exhaled right beside me. If I’m facing the other way, I feel it on the back of my ear. It’s the kind of feeling you get when someone is standing very close. The strange part is, the room is completely silent.
Yesterday, I was working at my desk, finishing some homework. I got up to find a pencil from the jar on the dresser. That’s when I heard it—a soft, airy voice that seemed to speak my name. At the same moment, I felt that familiar warm breath on my skin. This time, I also heard the faint sound of someone inhaling. I spun around, but the room was empty. My sister was in the backyard watering her plants, and my father was at the store. I sometimes mishear the radio, but this was different. I knew it wasn’t just in my head.
This isn’t the first odd thing to happen here. The previous owners mentioned strange occurrences.
