An elderly woman named Beatrice had a passion for collecting antique porcelain figures. At a recent estate sale, she acquired a large collection of delicate figurines from the Victorian era.
One evening, Beatrice arranged her new acquisitions across the large table in her sitting room before retiring for the night. Around midnight, a faint clinking sound stirred her from sleep. She rose and walked toward the sitting room, her slippers shuffling quietly on the floorboards.
There, at the table, sat a young girl in an old-fashioned dress. As Beatrice approached, she noticed the child’s hands were covered in fine cracks, like ancient porcelain. Beatrice raised her walking stick and spoke firmly. “You shouldn’t be here. This is my home.”
The girl looked up with glassy eyes, then slowly faded from view until only empty space remained at the table. Beatrice turned quickly to leave, her heart beating fast. As she moved toward the hallway, something in the adjacent parlor caught her attention.
