The Call from the Past

In a quiet town, nestled between rolling hills, lived a newlywed couple, Clara and James. They had recently moved into an old house that had once been part of a thriving orchard. The land had seen better days, having been untouched for decades, but Clara and James were excited about their new life together.

A few weeks after moving in, Clara decided to hire a caretaker named Lily to help maintain the garden. Lily was eager to assist and quickly made herself at home in the old house. One morning, while tending to the flowers, she approached Clara with a puzzled expression.

“Did you call for me last night?” Lily asked, her brow furrowed with concern. Clara shook her head, confused. “No, I didn’t. Why?”

Lily explained that she had heard a soft voice calling her name during the night. Clara brushed it off, thinking Lily might have had a dream. However, as days passed, Lily mentioned the voice again, insisting it felt real.

Lily turned, her eyes wide with excitement. “I swear, there’s a little girl here! She’s been telling me stories about this place, about the orchard.”

Clara’s heart raced. She had heard tales of the orchard’s past, stories of children playing and laughter filling the air. Could it be that a spirit lingered, tied to the land?

Determined to learn more, Clara and James spent their evenings researching the history of their home, uncovering tales of the orchard and its former residents. They discovered that a young girl had once lived there, her laughter echoing through the trees, until tragedy struck.

As the seasons changed, Clara felt a connection to the girl. One night, under a full moon, she ventured into the garden, calling softly, “If you’re here, I’d love to hear your stories.”
