This happened during a trip to a small mountain town. My wife and I had taken a few days off to relax, enjoy nature, and explore. One evening, after dinner, we decided to take a walk near a quiet lake at the edge of town. The air was cool, and the sun had just gone down. A light rain had passed through earlier, leaving the ground damp and the air fresh.
Across the lake, a narrow hiking trail led up the side of a steep hill. I had hiked that trail before, so I knew the path well. It was a tough climb, winding through trees and rocks, and it wasn’t the kind of place someone would hike alone at night.
As we walked, I saw something strange—a bright, bluish-white light moving along the trail on the hill. It wasn’t a flashlight. It didn’t have a beam, and it wasn’t flickering. It looked more like a glowing orb, floating just above the ground.
I pointed it out to my wife. She watched for a moment and asked if it could be a biker, but the trail was too steep, and the light was moving too smoothly—faster than any person could walk. We stood still, waiting to see what it would do.
It kept moving up the hill, following the path. Then, just before reaching a sharp turn where the trail switched back, the light vanished. It didn’t go up, didn’t go down. It was just… gone.
We stayed there for a few more minutes, watching. Nothing. So we walked back to our car and drove to a higher spot where we could see the entire hill. We waited, staring at the spot where the light had disappeared. Twenty minutes passed, but it never came back.
Later that night, we told my wife’s uncle what we had seen. He had lived in the town his whole life. He didn’t look surprised. He told us people had been seeing strange lights in those hills for years. Some thought they were spirits. Others believed they were something else—something not from this world. He also mentioned that, a long time ago, a hiker had gone missing on that trail and was never found.
I don’t know what we saw that night. Maybe it was a ghost. Maybe something else. But even now, when I think about it, I get a strange feeling in my chest. That quiet mountain town, with its peaceful beauty, still holds something unexplained. And I know I’ll never forget that glowing light on the hill.
