Years ago, when I was in fifth grade, my family moved into a charming old ranch house in a quiet town. The home had been built after the war by a couple from Europe. The elderly woman who owned it was very particular about who she would sell it to. She wanted a family that would cherish it as she and her husband had. She chose my family.

It was a perfect location, close to my school and in a friendly neighborhood. However, from the moment we moved in, strange things began to happen. At night, we would hear loud banging noises, like someone was dropping heavy boxes above us. There was nothing in the attic, and it definitely wasn’t animals.

The original door knobs in the house would stop working, locking me in my room. I had to dismantle the knobs to get out. Oddly, my family didn’t experience these issues. Items would disappear and reappear in strange places, like my phone showing up in a random chest. I often heard footsteps when no one was home.

One day, I saw him. I was walking down the hallway when a tall, transparent man walked from the kitchen into the office. For a moment, I thought it was my dad, but then I saw my dad sitting on the couch. The sight of this apparition made me drop what I was holding.

Initially, I was terrified, but I sensed that this man wasn’t evil. He loved this home and was attached to it. He seemed to want us out initially, but as I began to ignore his presence, his actions decreased.

I still think about him sometimes. He was a powerful spirit, deeply connected to the home for the right reasons. Perhaps he saw my family’s struggles and was trying to warn us. His wife had chosen us to take care of their beloved home, hoping it would be in good hands.
