A few years ago, I moved into a house in a quiet little town, thinking it would be a fresh start. The house was a nice place, nothing fancy, just an older home with plenty of space. But not long after moving in, strange things started happening.

My cat, Shadow, was the first to act weird. She would sit by the hallway entrance and just stare, completely focused on something I couldn’t see. No matter how many times I looked, the hallway was empty. But she wouldn’t stop watching.

At night, Shadow would scratch at my bedroom door, crying to come in. She even pushed her paw under the door, like she was desperate to be with me. It was odd because she never did that before.

One evening, my son, David, walked into the kitchen and asked if I had left out any old food. I told him no, but he swore he could smell something terrible—like rotten meat. We searched everywhere, checked the fridge, the trash—nothing. The smell stuck around for a few days, then disappeared. A month later, it came back again, just as strong.

Our dog, Max, started acting strange too. Some nights, he would stand in the yard barking at the roof, like something was up there. We also heard soft footsteps on the carpet at night, even when no one was awake.

Then things really got strange. The bathroom doorknob would jiggle like someone was trying to open it, but when we checked, no one was there. Small objects would move on their own—a hairbrush sliding across the counter, toothpaste ending up on the other side of the sink.

One night, my daughter, Emily, was outside skipping rope under the porch light. Suddenly, she let out the most terrified scream I’ve ever heard. She ran inside, shaking and out of breath. When I asked her what happened, she said she saw something on the roof—a big, hairy creature, hunched over, with glowing eyes staring at her.

The whole year we lived there, we felt like something was watching us. I hated walking down that hallway alone, and Shadow never stopped staring into it.

As soon as I got the chance, I packed up and moved away. I don’t know what was in that house, and honestly, I don’t want to know.
