When I was around 11, my mother and our neighbor, Mrs. Carter, would often sit in her living room using an old spirit board. Mrs. Carter always said she could sense spirits, and my older cousin and some of his friends would sometimes join in.

Most nights, the board would spell out the same name—”Eli.” He always had strange but interesting things to say.

But one evening, something different happened. The board didn’t bring up “Eli” like usual. Instead, it slowly spelled out a new name: “David.”

Nothing else at first. Just “David.”

Then, after a long pause, the board moved again and spelled out two words: “Help Mark.”

None of us knew a Mark, so we were confused. We even asked out loud, “Who is Mark?” but there was no answer. Eventually, we shrugged it off and moved on.

A week later, we turned on the news and heard the shocking report—a man named Mark Turner, a well-known businessman in the city, had been in a terrible accident. His car had veered off a bridge, and though they rescued him, he had been badly injured.

That sinking feeling hit all of us at once. Could this “David” have been trying to warn us? If we had known who Mark was, could we have done something?

To this day, I wonder—was it just a coincidence, or did a spirit truly reach out to warn us of what was coming?
