A few years ago, a group of friends decided to escape their routine lives and embark on a road trip from Florida to Colorado. Ethan and his partner, Mia, were nestled in the back seat of their compact car, filled with excitement and laughter. However, their adventure took a dark turn, and the next thing Ethan remembered was waking up in a sterile hospital room, disoriented and alone.

In the room, his childhood friend, Sam, and Mia were by his side, relief washing over their faces. Confused, Ethan asked why he was the only one hurt. With a reassuring smile, Sam remarked that he was fortunate to be alive. Mia leaned closer, promising that she would be there for him when he was ready to leave. Suddenly, a soft knock interrupted the moment, and before Ethan could react, Sam and Mia vanished through the window.

A moment later, his parents entered, followed by his younger sister and a few relatives. Their joy at seeing him awake was palpable, yet Ethan noticed the heaviness in their expressions. He searched their faces, looking for answers about his friends. His mother, unable to contain her emotions, began to cry softly. Not knowing how to respond, Ethan finally whispered, “Where are Sam and Mia?”

His sister, trying to comfort him, said, “They’re on a journey of their own now.” Confusion clouded Ethan’s mind, as he replayed the memory of their visit. The room felt colder, and he struggled to grasp the reality of their absence while his loved ones surrounded him, offering their support in this difficult moment.
