When I was in second grade, I attended a school called Maplewood Elementary. The building had a long history and used to be a Victorian hospital. One day, I was convinced there was a ghost in the bathroom, and I was so scared that I had to ask my friends to come with me. My best friend, Emma, agreed to go with me.

As I walked into the bathroom cubicle, the lights flickered. I nervously whispered to Emma, “Ghost help!” She reassured me, saying it was just the electricity acting up. But I was too frightened and ran out of the bathroom. As I reached the corridor leading back to my classroom, I suddenly stopped. Chilling shivers ran down my spine. Emma was about a meter away from me when I saw a big blob of smoke disappear through the wall. It was the first time I had ever seen a ghost!

I ran into the classroom, crying, and the teacher tried to calm me down, saying, “There’s no such thing as ghosts!” I knew she was just trying to stop us from worrying, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that what I saw was real.
