I remember that day so clearly, like it just happened. It was bright and warm, the kind of day that makes you feel good inside. I stepped out of the house, enjoying the sunshine as I walked toward my bike, ready to head out. But then, something caught my eye, and my heart skipped a beat.

Across the road, I saw my old friend, the one I had grown up with. He was walking slowly, looking a little off, like he was lost in thought. But then he spotted me, gave a small wave, and smiled. It felt strange because just the night before, I saw an ambulance take him away. His mom had been screaming for help, and I stood frozen, watching the flashing lights disappear into the night. I had no idea what had happened, but I had been worried about him all night.

Seeing him now, I felt a rush of relief. He seemed okay. I turned around and ran inside to tell my dad. But the moment I spoke, his face changed. He looked at me with sad eyes and said, “That can’t be. His mom just called… He passed away a few minutes ago.”

The words hit me like a wave. I couldn’t breathe. Just moments ago, I saw him, standing right there. How could he be gone? It didn’t make sense. My stomach twisted, and a deep sadness settled inside me.

For a long time after that, every time I looked down that road, I thought of him. I wished I had known it was my last time seeing him. Maybe I would have said something instead of just waving back. That day, I learned that life can change in an instant. And now, I try to never take moments with the people I love for granted.
