Last Sunday, something unusual happened that I can’t shake off. It was around 3 PM when my brother came home to share lunch with me. We settled into the dining area. He faced the window, while I was turned toward the wall behind us. We were catching up when I noticed my brother suddenly turn his head toward the hallway leading to the storage room. He seemed fixated on something that I couldn’t see, but I was too engrossed in our conversation to pay much attention.
His expression shifted, growing serious and tense, as he stared into the dimly lit hallway. I hadn’t noticed anything unusual, but the air felt different, almost charged. The door to the storage room had been left ajar; I had been organizing things earlier and must have forgotten to close it. We rarely left that door open, as it was rumored to be problematic, but I brushed it off.
Finally, he broke his gaze and asked why I hadn’t shut the door. I explained that I was tidying up, but he didn’t respond. An awkward silence hung between us, filled with unspoken questions. I could tell he was unsettled, and it made me uneasy too.
After a moment, I suggested we finish our lunch and forget about it. Yet, I could sense my brother’s discomfort lingering in the air, as if something unseen was watching us from the shadows of the hallway. We ate quickly, both feeling the weight of that strange moment, and the afternoon sun began to dip, casting long shadows in our home.
