One rainy evening, I found myself watching over a young girl named Lily. After a fun day, it was time for her to sleep, so I tucked her into bed and dimmed the lights. However, she immediately burst into tears, and I decided to sit by her side until she calmed down. She chatted endlessly until, quite suddenly, she fell silent and stared at the door. Her face turned pale, and she started to whimper. I felt a chill creep up my spine, as if something was lurking just outside.
To ease her fears, I suggested we move to the couch where we could watch her favorite show. We snuggled under a blanket, the glow of the television casting shadows in the dim room. Just as we began to relax, we heard a soft thump coming from the hallway. It was late, and I assumed it was just the house settling. But then the sound came again, this time louder.
Lily clutched my arm tightly, her eyes wide with fright. I reassured her and decided to investigate. As I walked toward the noise, my heart raced. I peered into the hallway but found nothing. Just as I was about to turn back, I heard a distant voice calling out, but it was faint and unrecognizable. Lily began to cry again, and I hurried back to the couch.
Trying to stay calm, I reached for my phone to call her parents. They answered quickly and informed me they would be back in about twenty minutes. While I was relieved, the unsettling sounds continued. Suddenly, a loud crash echoed from the kitchen, and I froze. Gathering my courage, I tiptoed toward the source of the sound, determined to find out what was happening. The night was far from over, and I could only hope for the best.
