When I was around 13, a peculiar night unfolded. My parents had gone out for dinner, leaving me in charge of my younger sister, Lily. The evening began normally, with us watching movies and eating popcorn. However, as the clock struck ten, an eerie shriek pierced the silence of our home.
Thinking it was just Lily having a nightmare, I headed to her room. But when I entered, she was peacefully asleep, her face calm. I waited, half-expecting another scream, but instead, a different noise came from downstairs. My heart raced as I realized it was not Lily who had made that sound.
Panicking, I dialed my parents, my voice trembling as I told them what was happening. They reassured me, saying it was likely just my imagination, and encouraged me to try and relax. Still feeling uneasy, I decided to let Lily sleep in my room with me for comfort.
Just as I settled down, a loud bang echoed through the house, making me jump. I glanced at my sister, who remained undisturbed. Determined to uncover the source of the noise, I quietly slipped out of bed and made my way downstairs, my heart pounding in my ears. The house felt oddly still, yet I could sense something was off. I took a deep breath and stepped further into the dim light, ready to confront whatever awaited me.
